Slumdog Millionaire - First Movie seen from US

I used to get scolding from Mr. K.V for not watching English movies. According to him watching English movies will help us to improve the command over the English accent. Even though it's a fact usually I avoid watching English movies.

Last week he took me to watch the movie Slumdog Millionaire. I was also interested in watching this movie since it had bagged 10 Oscar nominations and I had already read that it is the movie which describes about the life in Mumbai slums.

The movie depicts the story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year orphan from Mumbai slums who wins 20 million rupees in the show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”.

The movie begins when Jamal Malik is tortured by the policemen in a precinct accused of cheating a game show. Jamal, who has no education and works in a call center serving tea, is close to wining twenty million rupees in the show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” giving precise answers to the questions and raising suspicion of fraud. The police inspector shows the videotape and after each question, Jamal tells parts of his childhood with his brother Salim, his crush for Latika and their fight to survive on the streets to justify each correct answer, guided by his common sense and past experience, and prove his innocence

Special mention to be made is about the music in the movie which keeps it going.Kudos to A.R.Rahman for his wonderful effort. No surprise in bagging 3 Oscar nominations and winning golden globe for the music in the movie.
Overall it is an excellent movie.

My favorite song from the movie is Jai ho and I am posting its video here
